Choosing the Perfect Grazing Board
There's something about a beautiful wooden board loaded with cheese, crackers and fresh fruit that turns any gathering into an occasion. But add a name, a date, or a design that means something to the person you're giving it to? That's when a great board becomes an unforgettable one.
Whether you're shopping for a wedding gift, a housewarming, a corporate event, or just treating yourself to a kitchen upgrade you'll actually use, a personalised laser engraved grazing board is one of those rare gifts that lives on the bench rather than in the back of the cupboard.
Here's everything you need to know before you buy.
What Makes Beech Wood the Best Choice?
Not all wooden boards are created equal. While you'll find grazing boards made from bamboo, acacia, pine, and even MDF, premium natural beech wood is the gold standard for both cooking and presentation — and it's what we use at LaserGrafix for a reason.
Beech is:
Food-safe and non-porous — it won't absorb bacteria the way softer woods do
Hard and knife-friendly — it won't gouge or splinter under daily chopping
Beautiful under laser engraving — the warm, tight grain gives engravings incredible clarity and depth that simply doesn't show up the same way on other timbers
Naturally durable — with basic care, a beech wood board lasts decades
When you're personalising a board with a name, logo, or intricate illustration, the timber underneath matters enormously. Loose or inconsistent grain muddies fine details. Beech's tight, uniform grain is why our engravings are crisp at any size — from a single monogram to a full custom design.
Reversible Boards: The Feature Most People Don't Know to Ask For
A great grazing board should do two things: handle meal prep and look stunning on a table. Most boards do one or the other.
Our boards are fully reversible — one side is your everyday prep surface, the other your presentation side. The engraving sits on the presentation face so it's always on show when you carry it to the table, but the prep side stays clean and unmarked for actual kitchen work.
It sounds simple, but it's a surprisingly rare feature at this price point.
Which Size Is Right?
We offer two sizes to suit different occasions:
Classic Chopping Board — Small (28 × 20cm) from $24.95 The ideal everyday board and go-to gift. Compact enough for the kitchen bench, big enough for a generous cheese and cracker spread for two to four people. This is the one to personalise with a name, a funny kitchen quote, or a monogram design.
Grazing Board with Handle — Large (39 × 24cm) — $34.95 Built for serious entertaining. The integrated handle means you can load it up and carry the whole spread confidently in one hand — a genuinely useful feature when you're hosting. At this size, names, logos, and illustrations all engrave beautifully. This is the board for weddings, corporate events, and grazing table hire setups.
A note on bulk orders: If you're ordering for a corporate event, wedding favour table, or restaurant brand rollout, we offer bulk pricing on the large boards. Contact us at info@lasergrafix.au and we'll sort you out.
What Can You Engrave?
Almost anything. Here's what works best:
A name or surname — clean, classic, always appreciated
A witty kitchen quote — "Cheese is always the answer" never gets old. Choose from our range of designs. New designs are updated reguarlry
A monogram — simple initials in a decorative style look exceptional on beech grain
A logo — great for corporate gifting and restaurant branding; we can work from your existing artwork
A date — wedding dates, anniversaries, "Established [year]" family boards
A custom illustration — we can engrave portraits, crests, botanical designs, pet silhouettes, and more
Not sure what to put on it? Browse our design gallery at lasergrafix.au or just describe what you have in mind and we'll work with you on it.
How to Care for Your Engraved Beech Wood Board
A little maintenance goes a long way:
Hand wash only — never the dishwasher; sustained heat and moisture will warp any timber board
Dry immediately — don't leave it sitting in water or lying wet on the bench
Oil occasionally — a light coat of food-grade mineral oil or beeswax board cream every few months keeps the wood hydrated and the engraving looking fresh
Avoid harsh detergents — a gentle dish soap and warm water is all you need
Cared for properly, a beech wood board engraved today will still look sharp on your bench twenty years from now.
